Representative Eliot Engel is currently serving his 10th term representing the 17th district of New York. Elected in 1988, he has been deeply concerned with American foreign affairs and a champion for Israel. In 2004, Engel authored the Syria Accountability and Lebanese Sovereignty Act, pressuring Syria to withdraw from Lebanon. He is also one the leading congressional supporters of recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Engel serves on the Energy and Commerce Committee, Foreign Affairs Committee, is the vice chair of the Democratic Task Force on Homeland Security and founder and co-chair of the House Oil and National Security Caucus. He currently lives in the Bronx with his wife, Patricia, and three children.
