Leaving his previous career as a newspaper publisher, Representative John Yarmuth was elected in 2006 to serve the 3rd congressional district in Kentucky. Yarmuth is strong voice for children and improving the country's education system. He received the awards of "Outstanding New Member of Congress" from The Committee for Education Funding, "Best of Congress" from Working Mother magazine, and "Best Representative for Kids" from The Children's Defense Fund Action Council. Yarmuth serves on the Education and Labor Committee and Oversight and Government and Reform Committee. He currently lives in Louisville, Kentucky with his wife Cathy. They have one son.
