Representative Alan Lowenthal was first elected to the Congress in 2012. Prior to entering the House of Representatives, he served as a City Council member in Long Beach, California and then as a State Assembly member. In the California Assembly, Lowenthal was a cofounder of the Bipartisan Caucus and helped create the independent redistricting commission that ensures an unbiased approach to drawing legislative district lines. Lowenthal was a also a leader on environmental and education issues during his tenure in the California Assembly.
