NJDC Praises Economic Stimulus Package

WASHINGTON, DC - Ira N. Forman, Executive Director of the National Jewish Democratic Council (NJDC), released the following statement:
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, signed into law today by President Barack Obama, is a significant step toward achieving America’s economic recovery. This landmark law recognizes the importance of putting our country back on a long-term path to prosperity.
In a time when our country is facing the most severe economic downturn in recent history, Obama and the Democratic leadership have acted quickly and responsibly to create a bold plan to lead America’s economy out of this crisis. This economic stimulus package will create or save millions of American jobs, provide tax relief, and get our economy moving forward by transforming it for long-term growth and stability.
Every economic indicator and every passing day reminds us of the severity of this economic crisis. 3.6 million American workers have lost their jobs since this recession began in December 2007, due to the failed economic policies of the Bush administration. We commend Obama and the Democratic leadership for taking the lead in moving our country forward toward economic recovery.
