NJDC: Buchenwald Visit Highlights Obama Connections with the Jewish Community

Listed in: Israel, Other Foreign Policy, NJDC News, Press Releases

WASHINGTON, DC - Ira N. Forman, CEO of the National Jewish Democratic Council (NJDC), released the following statement:

President Obama’s visit to Buchenwald today - like his speech in Cairo yesterday - demonstrates that he recognizes the horrific historic role of the Holocaust, something that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and too many others throughout the Middle East, simply deny. Yet, Obama’s actions as President and throughout the campaign equally demonstrate his understanding that the story of the Jewish people begins far before 1938 and continues well after 1945. The President’s connection to the Jewish community is personal and deep; in short, he “gets” the American Jewish community.
