NJDC: Increased Fuel Efficiency Standards Improves Environment, Reduces Dependency on Foreign Oil

WASHINGTON, DC - Ira N. Forman, CEO of the National Jewish Democratic Council (NJDC), released the following statement:

We applaud President Barack Obama for proposing the highest ever U.S. automobile and truck fuel and emission standards. This proposal is a major step in the essential goal of reducing our dependency on foreign oil, cutting greenhouse gas emissions, and curtailing climate change. To strengthen our long-term national security interests, we must end our dependence on foreign oil.

For way too long, the U.S. has fulfilled much of our energy appetite through oil imports from countries like Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, and Libya. These countries do not always have America’s best interests in mind and are certainly not supportive of one of our strongest democratic allies - Israel. We strongly support the Obama administration’s commitment to improving our environment and reducing our dependency on foreign oil.
