WASHINGTON, DC—Ira N. Forman, Chief Executive Officer of the National Jewish Democratic Council (NJDC), released the following statement:

“As unfortunate as tonight’s loss by Martha Coakley was in the Massachusetts special election for the United States Senate, one fact remains clear: the push to fix our nation’s broken health care system must continue, and we must complete this critical task as quickly as possible. Regardless of the outcome of any one race, health insurance reform remains a moral and fiscal imperative of our time. Clear majorities agree—in Congress, among doctors, and among the American people. And within the organized Jewish community, there is a virtual consensus surrounding the need for urgent change.

“Our Jewish tradition teaches us to pursue justice. And despite tonight’s unfortunate election outcome, we must continue to pursue justice. We will work to help achieve comprehensive health care reform as soon as possible.”
