Washington, DC: A new publication released today features Democratic leaders addressing the foreign policy and counter-terrorism questions raised by America's war against terrorism, while highlighting the Democratic Party's continued strong support for Israel. The booklet provides detailed answers from Democratic policy-makers and opinion leaders, including Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle (SD), House Minority Leader Richard Gephardt (MO-3), former Vice Presidential candidate Senator Joseph Lieberman (CT), and former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Richard Holbrooke. Topics examined include the root causes of terrorism and its cures, and why it is critical that the United States continues its strong relationship with Israel, now more than ever.

The National Jewish Democratic Council (NJDC) produced the question-and-answer booklet, commissioned by NJDC Executive Committee Member Daniel D. Cantor. "In a time like this of national crisis, all Americans - but especially Jewish Americans - need to educate themselves about the true nature of the threat of terrorism," said Cantor. "All Americans need to understand what motivates our terrorist enemies. Americans must not be confused by those who wish for us to find convenient scapegoats for the present danger to our national security - those who do not want us to focus on the true tasks at hand. That is why I have commissioned the National Jewish Democratic Council to produce this handbook."

"The clear-headed answers in this booklet demonstrate how our Democratic Party leaders have the right answers to these questions," stated NJDC Executive Director Ira N. Forman. "We will distribute the booklet to Jewish organizations and communities from coast to coast, at NJDC events, to senior supporters, as well as to Capitol Hill and opinion-makers." Added Cantor, "It is my sincere hope that all who read these pages will take upon themselves the responsibility to educate the media, our elected officials and other opinion leaders as to how we can best combat the scourge of international terrorism."
