WASHINGTON, DC - National Jewish Democratic Council (NJDC) Chair Marc R. Stanley and President and CEO David A. Harris today jointly issued the following statement on Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s appointment as Chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC):

“On behalf of the Executive Committee, Board of Directors and supporters of the National Jewish Democratic Council, we are positively thrilled that our close friend Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz has been selected by President Barack Obama to serve in the crucial position of Chair of the Democratic National Committee.

As a one-time NJDC staff member and a true leader in Congress on so many issues of vital concern to American Jews, few people are better positioned to understand the interests of the American Jewish community—and to continue ensuring that they are reflected in all of the work of the Democratic Party.

We know just how helpful Rep. Wasserman Schultz’s accrued wisdom will be at the DNC as we at NJDC work to maximize Jewish support for Democrats at the federal and state levels of government. And this choice, at this time—given who Rep. Wasserman Schultz is, her work, and everything she stands for—speaks volumes about how the Democratic Party continues to be the only party in step with the values of the vast majority of American Jews.

As we welcome Rep. Wasserman Schultz to this position, we also thank outgoing Chair Governor Tim Kaine for his tremendous leadership and his incredible support and cooperation. His commitment to our shared values has been unprecedented, and we continue to treasure our friendship as he enters the race to represent Virginia in the United States Senate.

We look forward to continuing our close working relationship with Rep. Wasserman Schultz in her critical new role, but for now we wish her a hearty mazel tov on her selection.”
