NJDC Says Israel Has Right to Self-Defense, Saddened by Loss of Life

Listed in: Israel, NJDC News, Press Releases

WASHINGTON, DC - Ira N. Forman, Executive Director of the National Jewish Democratic Council (NJDC) released the following statement:

Israel has a right to self-defense against the reign of Hamas's constant terrorist attacks, and NJDC has confidence in President-elect Obama's Middle East priorities.

NJDC is saddened by the loss of life in this current conflict but supports Israel's need to end the terror attacks against its civilian population. Hamas can unilaterally end the current conflict by an immediate cessation of rocket fire that is targeting Israel's civilian population.

NJDC respects Obama's position that the United States has only one President at a time.  Moreover, NJDC has great confidence that the President-elect, upon taking office, will devote the needed energy to reviving the peace process between Israel and the Palestinians.

Further, NJDC remains encouraged by Obama's appreciation of Israel's legitimate security needs as expressed during his July 2008 trip to Sderot.
