WASHINGTON, DC – Tonight, the National Jewish Democratic Council (NJDC), the national voice for Jewish Democrats, is honoring Representative Steny Hoyer (D-MD), House of Representatives Majority Leader with the NJDC Tikkun Olam Award for his outstanding leadership and his deep relationship with the Jewish community.

“Steny has always been a great friend of the Jewish community and has shown strong leadership on the issues important to NJDC including the separation of church and state, a strong U.S.-Israel relationship, and reproductive freedom,” said Marc R. Stanley, Chairman of NJDC. “One of Leader Hoyer’s first tasks as Democratic whip was to schedule a vote on U.S. solidarity with Israel—it passed the House by a vote of 399-5.”

“Since he is being honored on Earth Day, it is particularly relevant to point out that Leader Hoyer strongly supports policies that move the United States away from dependence on Mid-East oil toward energy independence by balancing increasing production with incentives for conservation and energy efficiency,” said Stanley.
