WASHINGTON, DC - Ira N. Forman, Executive Director of the National Jewish Democratic Council (NJDC), released the following statement:

The National Jewish Democratic Council (NJDC) joins with Israel’s supporters across the world to celebrate Yom Ha’atzmaut, Israel’s Independence Day. We are proud to have a president who unequivocally states, “deep bonds of friendship between the U.S. and Israel remain as strong and unshakable as ever.”

In the 61 years since Israel’s declaration of independence, the Jewish state has fought numerous wars and existential threats to its existence. Despite these challenges, Israel remains a vibrant democracy. Israel’s continued existence as a Jewish democratic state is a true blessing.

During Obama’s first 100 days in office, it is clear that the relationship between the U.S. and Israel remains strong. We support Obama as he, “looks forward to working with Israel to advance our common interests, including the realization of a comprehensive peace in the Middle East, ensuring Israel’s security, and strengthening the bilateral relationship, over the months and years to come.”
