Jewish Democrats Applaud Senate Confirmation of Rabbi David Saperstein
Long-time head of RAC to be Religious leader to be ambassador at large for international religious freedom
Washington, D.C. - Following his nomination this past July, the U.S. Senate yesterday confirmed Rabbi David Saperstein as the new ambassador at large for international religious freedom. The National Jewish Democratic Council congratulates Rabbi Saperstein on his new position, stating that he will be a strong champion for social justice around the world. Rabbi Saperstein, who has been the head of the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism for the past 30 years, will be the first non-Christian ambassador to fill the position.
NJDC Chair Greg Rosenbaum stated,
“If asked to describe the perfect candidate to defend the religious freedom of communities throughout the world, I would simply describe Rabbi David Saperstein. Rabbi Saperstein has always been a leading voice for social justice not only in the Jewish world, but also in the American community at large. We look forward to working with the new ambassador in the months and years to come.”
