WASHINGTON, DC- The National Jewish Democratic Council (NJDC) today demanded that Senator Mitch McConnell repudiate the “Gestapo” remark made by his campaign manager, Jesse Benton. NJDC Executive Director Aaron Keyak said:
“Senator Mitch McConnell—the most powerful Republican in the Senate—must denounce his campaign manager’s inappropriate use of ‘Gestapo,’ which comes just days after Holocaust Remembrance Day. If McConnell chooses to remain silent on this matter and tolerate this offensive rhetoric, it will be disrespectful to those who were murdered and abused by the actual Gestapo.”
The Washington Post reported on Benton’s remark:
The campaign manager for Sen. Mitch McConnell’s reelection bid insisted again Wednesday that the Kentucky senator’s office was bugged in what he described as “Gestapo-like tactics.”...
“This is Gestapo kind of scare tactics and we’re not going to stand for it,” Jesse Benton told radio host Mike Huckabee on Wednesday.
