Washington, DC: The National Jewish Democratic Council (NJDC) today condemned in the strongest terms the alleged plot by the Jewish Defense League (JDL) to bomb a Los Angeles mosque and the office of an Arab-American member of the U.S. House of Representatives. Federal Bureau of Investigations agents reportedly foiled the plot Tuesday night, arresting two JDL leaders who they said were preparing the attack.

"The JDL may be a tiny fringe group, but the scale of the damage that they could have done - and the shame and outrage that they bring to Jews everywhere - cannot be minimized," said Ira N. Forman, Executive Director of the National Jewish Democratic Council. "Any group that chooses to purposefully inflict violence against civilian targets to achieve political ends must be universally condemned, no matter what community they come from. The thought of attacking the office of any elected official, or bombing a mosque during the month of Ramadan, is utterly despicable. Such actions run counter to everything that Judaism stands for."
