NJDC calls Kucinich Letter Reckless, Urges Members of Congress to Reject It

Today, the National Jewish Democratic Council (NJDC) criticized the content of a letter Representative Dennis Kucinich is circulating and urges Democratic Members of Congress to reject its reckless message.

Ira N. Forman, CEO of the NJDC stated that the Kucinich letter to President Obama is factually incorrect and unfortunately dismissive of those who would contest his analysis.

Forman indicated that, “Congressman Kucinich’s assertion that Israel’s actions in boarding the Mavi Marmara can not be justified under international law runs directly counter to the opinion such respected foreign policy observers such as Leslie Gelb. Moreover, Kucinich is blind to the serious responsibility of both so-called “peace activists” and the state of Turkey in provoking this incident and ignores the historical reality that Israel has a proven track record of fair and impartial review of its own military’s actions.”

Forman went on to state that, “NJDC neither dismisses the unfortunate loss of life in this incident nor advocates that the state of Israel is ever beyond criticism. Nonetheless, it is not constructive, as this letter does, to state that ‘all people of good will’ must agree with his extremely one-sided analysis. We urge Democratic Members of Congress to avoid signing on to this letter.”
