Since taking office in 2009, President Barack Obama has taken a number of steps to improve the lives of millions of Americans and move our country forward. Some of the President’s achievements include:
Historic Health Care Reform that will Increase Access to Health Insurance and Contain Costs. “Obamacare” contains many essential reforms, including:
* Patients will no longer be dropped because of preexisting conditions;
* Children will remain covered by their parents’ insurance until age 26;
* Women’s preventative screenings will now be covered;
* Seniors’ prescription drug “donut hole” will be closed by 2020.
Protecting the Social Safety Net against Reckless Republican Cuts.
Every time Republicans have pushed for budgets that make dramatic cuts to the social safety net, President Obama has countered by standing up for America’s middle class, poor, seniors, women, and children.
Protecting Women’s Rights to Choose and Privacy.
President Obama has firmly opposed Republican attempts to restrict women’s rights. In addition, access to contraception will increase and costs will decrease under the Jewish community-supported contraception compromise.
Rescuing the American Auto Industry.
When Republicans were ready to give up and “let Detroit go bankrupt,” President Obama acted decisively and saved millions of jobs.
Advancing Civil Rights for Gay and Lesbian Americans.
* Repealing the discriminatory “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy; and
* Voicing support for marriage equality.
Fighting for Equal Pay.
The first bill signed by President Obama was the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act—which is a key step towards true wage equality for women. The President has been a leading voice against Republicans who have been obstructing and politicizing further fair pay laws.
Implementing Fair Reforms to America’s Immigration System.
President Obama instituted reforms that will remove barriers to the American dream for millions of young people who have called America home for years.
Working toward Energy Independence while Protecting the Environment.
* Increasing fuel efficiency standards;
* Expanding green energy production from a variety of sources; and
* Responsibly increasing domestic oil production.
Securing America at Home and Abroad.
* Standing up for Israel when Israel needs America the most;
* Leading the global movement to stop Iran’s nuclear weapons program; and
* Bringing Osama Bin Laden to justice.
