WASHINGTON, DC - Ira N. Forman, Executive Director of the National Jewish Democratic Council (NJDC), released the following statement:
Today the Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC) launched one of its ongoing, day-to-day, ludicrous attacks on Senator Barack Obama.
RJC's attack on Obama's position to support the decision of the duly elected government of Israel with regards to the final status of Jerusalem is indefensible. Is RJC and, by extension, Senator John McCain, ready to state that they wish to have veto power over the duly elected government of the State of Israel?
Moreover, the charge that the Obama statement on Jerusalem is as a result of Hamas pressure is positively laughable. Given Obama's history of strong condemnation of Hamas they can't possibly believe that Obama is responding to anti-Semitic and anti-American terrorists. Such attacks are an insult to the intelligence of the American Jewish community.
The day in and day out fear and smear campaign by the RJC can only be a bi-product of their fear that as Obama becomes better known to the Jewish community he is becoming increasingly more popular with Jewish voters.
Founded in 1990, the National Jewish Democratic Council is the national voice of Jewish Democrats. Informed by our commitment to those values shared by the Democratic Party and the vast majority of American Jews - including the separation of church and state, a strong US-Israel relationship, and reproductive freedom.
