Jewish Dems Thank Senate Minority Leader Reid for Decades of Service

Listed in: NJDC News, Press Releases

This morning, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid announced that he will not seek re-election in 2016, bringing an end to a career that spanned three decades and saw the passage of some of the most influential legislation in United States history. The National Jewish Democratic Council applauds Sen. Reid on his announcement and thanked him for his leadership throughout his career.

“As one of the longest-serving leaders in Senate history, Sen. Reid has been a true shining light for the Democratic Party. At a time when his leadership was needed the most, he led the way in ushering the Affordable Care Act through the Senate, granting health care to millions of Americans. Furthermore, he has proven to be a stalwart ally of Israel time and time again, and he has firmly worked to prevent a nuclear-armed Iran, in part by spearheading sanctions that brought Iran to the negotiating table. There are few who make as strong of an impact in the Senate as Harry Reid, and we salute him on his well-deserved retirement. We look forward to working with Sen. Reid during his last two years in office as we work to restore a Democratic majority in 2016.”
