WASHINGTON, DC - The National Jewish Democratic Council (NJDC) today praised members of Congress - and the Democratic Leadership - for taking swift action in passing additional sanctions against Iran.

NJDC President David A. Harris said:

“These latest sanctions, aimed at foreign companies that do business with Iran’s Revolutionary Guard or contribute to its energy industry, are yet another demonstration of our government’s commitment to preventing a nuclear-armed Iran. The sanctions send a strong message about the United States’ commitment to keeping those threatened by Iran - including the citizens of Israel - safe. Our deep thanks are owed both to the overwhelming, bipartisan majorities that passed this legislation in both the House and Senate, as well as to the Democratic Leadership - starting with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi - who led the way and remained focused on this critical issue.

We applaud President Barack Obama and his national security team for their ongoing efforts to bring the international community together on this essential issue. The sanctions that passed today, coupled with those passed by the European Union and the United Nations, will help quash Iran’s nuclear ambitions. And that is an outcome that is essential not just to the United States and to Israel, but to the entire world.”
