The National Jewish Democratic Council (NJDC) today commended the U.S. Senate for passing, by unanimous consent, a resolution recognizing the right of Israel to defend itself against attacks from Gaza (S. Res. 10).

“NJDC applauds the Senate for taking action and passing this bipartisan resolution reaffirming America’s strong support for Israel in its battle with Hamas,” said Ira N. Forman, Executive Director of NJDC. “The Senate resolution supports Israel and appropriately supports efforts to end the conflict by means of an enforceable ceasefire that addresses the problem of Hamas’s rocket and mortar attacks and also ‘allows for the long term improvement of daily living conditions for the ordinary people of Gaza.’”

“We are proud that support for Israel has strong bipartisan consensus and urge the U.S. House of Representatives to follow the Senate’s lead by passing a similar resolution,” said Forman.

To help highlight the bipartisan support for Israel’s security needs, NJDC has launched a new resource section on our website that includes statements from Democratic leadership and Democratic elected officials in support of Israel’s right to self defense.
