Jewish Members of Congress: Dianne Feinstein (Senator, California)

Senator Dianne Feinstein has been a leading voice in environmental legislation, strengthening our nation's security, and combating crime and cancer. Feinstein was elected in 1992, the first woman elected senator from California. She has argued strongly for environmental protection, passing legislation to creating millions of acres of national park land in California. Feinstein has developed a reputation for being a strong bipartisan worker on issues such as homeland security and crime laws. She is an ardent supporter of strong gun regulation. A woman of many firsts, Feinstein was the first woman president of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, the first woman mayor of San Francisco, the first woman elected Senator from California, the first woman member of the Senate Judiciary Committee and the first woman to chair the Senate Rules and Administration Committee. In addition, she serves on the Judiciary Committee, Appropriations Committee and Select Committee on Intelligence. Feinstein currently lives in San Francisco with her husband, Richard Blum.
