Steve Cohen

Representative Steve Cohen has a long history in Tennessee politics. Prior to his election in 2006 to the 9th Tennessee district, Cohen served in the State Senate for 24 years. In the State Senate, he was most well known for establishing the Tennessee Education Lottery Program, which has created over a billion dollars for students to continue their education on a collegiate level. In the House, he introduced legislation that officially apologized for African American slavery and the Jim Crow system that followed the civil war. Cohen is the first Jewish representative from the state of Tennessee in the US Congress. He serves on the House Judiciary Committee and Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. Cohen currently resides in Memphis, Tennessee.
