Tell 2010 Candidates to Repudiate Anti-Semitism and Abusive Holocaust Rhetoric

Recent months have seen a deeply divisive coarsening of our political discourse, with a vile uptick in Holocaust rhetoric and anti-Semitic language—including from some in the “Tea Party” movement.  

 

From Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh to politicians and federal candidates, we’ve been seeing more and more of these horrible Holocaust comparisons—applied to health care reform, and even to President Barack Obama and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Perhaps this language reached its height in November at an official House Republican press conference before “Tea Party” activists, where the House Republican leadership stood before a crowd that held a banner displaying a stack of dead bodies at Dachau, titled “National Socialist Health Care Plan, Dachau, Germany - 1945.” Yet another sign suggested that “Obama takes his orders from the Rothchilds” [sic].

 

This caustic language has to stop, period. Today, starting with the U.S. Senate race in Illinois, NJDC is calling on every federal candidate in 2010 to sign a pledge condemning and promising to refrain from such language today and in the future, and similarly pledging to condemn abusive Holocaust rhetoric and anti-Semitic language from their campaign supporters in the future as well.

 

But we can’t do this without you. Please do two things, right now:

 

1. We need your help to pressure the candidates. Please click here to read the pledge for yourself, and add your name to the list of those demanding a higher level of political discourse in America.

 

2. Tell at least five friends and family members; we need as many signatures as we can get to let candidates know that we’re serious.

 

Together, we can make an impact and stem the tide of this profoundly damaging language.
