Last night, President Barack Obama introduced the American Jobs Act during his speech to a joint session of Congress. The American Jobs Act contains a variety of provisions designed to create jobs and improve the economy without increasing the deficit. The bill’s provisions include:

  • Tax cuts for small businesses so that they can hire more workers and expand. Other businesses will also receive tax cuts for hiring and increasing wages;
  • Relief to American families, including a payroll tax cut;
  • Assistance for states to hire back teachers who have been laid off;
  • Aid to repair America’s infrastructure and public schools;
  • Unemployment extensions and job training programs; and
  • Tax reforms that close corporate loopholes and ensure that the wealthiest pay their fair share.
