Huckabee is Beyond the Pale

David Streeter — August 27, 2009 – 11:11 am | Foreign Policy | Israel | Republicans | Separation of Church & State Comments (0) Add a comment

Former Arkansas Governor and possible 2012 GOP Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee is absolutely beyond the pale in his views toward Israel and American Jewish support for Israel. The fact is, the two state solution is viewed as the mainstream solution to the conflict (even former Governor and Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin admits this) and it is the consensus view of both American and Israeli Jews. Huckabee’s nonsense about population transfer is absolutely ignorant and impractical for Israel and the Arab world. And his statement that it is “better to be feared and respected than loved” is not helpful for the peace process. Statements like this undo the work of Israel’s previous peacemakers and completely ignore the work of anyone has ever successfully bridged the gap between Jews and Arabs through cooperation and respectful exchanges.
