Huckabee Continues Anti-Choice Campaign With Group That Invokes The Holocaust

Former Arkansas Governor and potential 2012 Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee (R-AR) spoke about his anti-choice stance on Monday at a fundraiser for the Center for Bioethical Reform (CBR), a group that advocates for “prenatal justice and the right to life for the unborn.”

According to a video clip posted by Right Wing Watch, Huckabee said:

For me this is an issue that - as I’ve said before - it transcends all of the political issues. I’ve often said I would gladly lose an election before I would ever yield on the issue of the sanctity of human life.

CBR funds a project called the Genocide Awareness Project, a photo-mural exhibit that travels to different college campuses comparing abortions to the Holocaust and other historical genocides. According to their website:

The Genocide Awareness Project (GAP) is a traveling photo-mural exhibit which compares the contemporary genocide of abortion to historically recognized forms of genocide. It visits university campuses around the country to show as many students as possible what abortion actually does to unborn children and get them to think about abortion in a broader historical context.

In their Frequently Asked Questions section, when asked about the insensitivity toward Jews and African Americans, the GAP responded:

These pictures of genocide against Jews and African Americans are used all the time in textbooks and documentaries.  Martin Luther King, in his letter from the Birmingham Jail, compared the brutalization of blacks to the brutalization of Jews during the Holocaust.  Was that insensitive of him?

Not only is Huckabee continuing his tirade against a woman’s right to choose, but he does so in congruence with a group that invokes the Holocaust to make its ideological points. Such associations with tactless groups further separate Huckabee and many other potential Republican presidential candidates from representing the views of the majority of American Jews.
