The National Jewish Democratic Council (NJDC) announced today that it is launching an unprecedented Jewish outreach effort for the upcoming Virginia election. NJDC’s wide-ranging Virginia project will include field organizers, advertising, direct mail, literature drops, trainings, surrogate speaking, phone banking, and canvassing.

“Jewish voters will face important choices when going to the voting booth, and NJDC wants to make sure they have the facts and vote on November 3,” said Linda Berg, NJDC’s Political Director. “During the last two elections, Democratic candidates for Virginia governor won their seats with 2 percent margins. We estimate Jewish voter turnout to be approximately 50,000 voters, which could make the difference in this close election.”

To educate Jewish voters, NJDC’s Virginia outreach team will address important issues such as women’s equal rights, reproductive freedom, stem cell research, health care, and building an economic partnership between Israel and Virginia.

NJDC’s Virginia outreach team includes Project Director Alana Kuhn, Andrew Linhardt who will be organizing in Northern Virginia, and Melissa Zinder who will be organizing students at the University of Virginia.

To assist the outreach team, NJDC has created the Virginia Volunteer Corps encouraging Jewish activists to volunteer with NJDC’s Virginia outreach. Those interested in joining the Corps can go to our website.

“There are stark differences between the Republican and Democratic candidates in Virginia on issues that Jewish voters care deeply about. NJDC is excited to launch this unprecedented outreach effort to educate Jewish voters statewide,” said Berg.
