Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in New York yesterday, following his address at the U.N. General Assembly. During the 75-minute one-on-one meeting, Clinton and Netanyahu “reaffirmed that the United States and Israel share the goal of preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon,” according to a statement by a senior State Department official. The official described the meeting as an “open, wide-ranging constructive conversation” in which Clinton and Netanyahu “agreed that we will continue our close consultation and cooperation.”
This meeting came on the heels of Netanyahu’s speech before the U.N., in which he said of President Obama, “I very much appreciate the president’s position, as does everyone in my country. We share the goal of stopping Iran’s nuclear weapons program… I am confident that we can chart a path forward together.”
