During the beginning of Passover, NJDC’s words went far and wide in praise of the first Seder hosted by a United States President. Alexis C. Rice, our Deputy Executive Director, told the Associated Press, “By hosting the first presidential Seder in America’s history, President Barack Obama shows the personal and deep relationship he has with the Jewish community.”

The article ran in news outlets throughout the U.S. and the world including: The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post,  USA Today, ABC, CBS, MSNBC, TIME, Salon, Newsday, AOL News, Real Clear Politics, Yahoo News, WTOP, The Boston Globe, The Boston Herald, The Chicago Sun Times, The Denver Post, DC Examiner, The New York Post, The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Seattle Times, The San Francisco Chronicle, The Star Tribune, The Las Vegas Sun,  The Mercury News, The Miami Herald, The Guardian (UK), Haaretz, The Jakrata Post, and many others.

Here’s the full statement from Alexis C. Rice, NJDC Deputy Executive Director, on the White House Seder:

By hosting the first Presidential Seder in America’s history, President Barack Obama shows the personal and deep relationship he has with the Jewish community. There is no question, Obama is a true friend of the Jewish community.

In these challenging times, it is important to reflect on the freedoms and liberties we are fortunate to have. As we relive the Passover story, from thousands of years ago, this message couldn’t be more relevant or pertinent to the world we live in today.

We wish the President, his administration, and the entire Jewish community a chag sameach.

As a people, we Jews have a big table, and we welcome the Obama family as we would members of our own family and community. We appreciate the interest and respect they have demonstrated by holding a Seder in their new home, and hope they enjoyed their Seder as much as we enjoyed ours.

President Obama understands that America is the most diverse country on Earth, and that by making all peoples, including American Jews, feel welcome to share their rich traditions with all other Americans we strengthen the very identity of America! Let us support our President as he seeks to bring an end to the Middle East conflict and bring about a Two-States Solution as soon as possible!
