Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak is in the United States this week for a series of meetings. At the Pentagon on Monday, Barak talked with Secretary of Defense Robert Gates. The two discussed the Gaza blockade and kidnapped Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit. Following the meeting, Barak said of US-Israel relations, “The US understands and supports the steps Israel is taking in Gaza.”
Following his meeting with Gates, Barak left for New York to participate in a conference and to meet with UN Secretary General Ban-Ki Moon. He will return to Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, where his agenda will include meetings with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and other officials from the Obama Administration.
