Condemning the Jerusalem Bus Bombing

NJDC — March 23, 2011 – 11:46 am | Israel | Terrorism Comments (1) Add a comment

The thoughts and prayers of the National Jewish Democratic Council’s leaders, members and staff are with the injured and the family of the woman killed in today’s horrific attack in the center of Jerusalem. More information about the attack can be found here.

President Barack Obama strongly condemned the bombing. He said:

I condemn in the strongest possible terms the bombing in Jerusalem today, as well as the rockets and mortars fired from Gaza in recent days. Together with the American people, I offer my deepest condolences for those injured or killed. There is never any possible justification for terrorism. The United States calls on the groups responsible to end these attacks at once and we underscore that Israel, like all nations, has a right to self-defense. We also express our deepest condolences for the deaths of Palestinian civilians in Gaza yesterday. We stress the importance of calm and urge all parties to do everything in their power to prevent further violence and civilian casualties.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said:

This morning I was shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the bombing in Jerusalem today that took at least one life and injured innocent civilians. Terrorism and the targeting of civilians are never justified. And Israel, like all nations, of course, has to respond when this occurs. The United States is committed to Israel’s security and we strongly condemn this violence and extend our deepest sympathies to all those affected.

We also strongly condemn recent rocket attacks from Gaza against innocent Israeli civilians and hold fully responsible the militants perpetrating these attacks. And I join President Obama in extending our sincere condolences to the friends and families of the Palestinian civilians killed in Gaza yesterday and appreciate that Israel has expressed regret.

We stress the importance of calm and we urge all concerned to do everything in their power to prevent further violence and civilian casualties among both Israelis and Palestinians. Violence only erodes hope for a lasting and meaningful peace and the final realization of two states for two peoples.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) condemned the attack as well:

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends, and loved ones of the woman who died in today’s heinous bombing at a Jerusalem bus stop, and with all those injured in the attack.

Violence against innocent civilians is unacceptable and incomprehensible, and we stand united in condemning this act of violence and praying for the recovery of the victims.

I condemn, in the strongest terms possible, the inhuman, barbaric, monstrously cowardly terror attack at the Central Bus Depot in what should always be The City of Peace, YeruShalaim (Jerusalem)! The same goes for all acts of unjustified violence everywhere! Whether they come in the form of missiles launched from insensibly violent idiots in the pressure-cooker that Hamas and others have made of Gaza or the brutal mass-murder committed by a psychotic demagogue in Lybia…wherever!

We must fight the conditions and sick, Big Lie, propaganda that facilitates the brainwashing efforts of psychotic terrorist leaders, we must detect and prevent the brainwashed, dangerous fools from reaching their targets, and we must make it clear to the whole World that while there are legitimate ways to achieve real peace with true justice; violence in reaction is rarely justified (in the form of true, justified, defense) and never justified IF it comes unexpected and targeted at defenceless fellow human-beings….for in the Big Picture We are all part of One Human Family on this Little, Fragile, Pearl of a Planet Earth and all this Irrational Hate-driven Violence only threatens to destroy all Humanity! We must fight the terrorists for the Senselessly Violent Obstructionists they are, but We must not inadvertently serve these terrorists by collectively punishing the people they falsely claim to represent!

My above advice applies equally to ALL ‘SIDES’ OF THE EQUATION! To Israelis and Palestinians alike. WORDS MATTER EVERYTHING!

May the majority of Peace-desiring Palestinians and Israelis come together and demand peace based on a Two-State Compromise as soon as possible.

Shalom, Salam, Peace to All Peacemakers.
