Brandeis Bio Receives Positive Reviews

Melvin I. Urofsky’s newest book, Louis D. Brandeis: A Life, is receiving positive reviews. Notably:

• Elaine Margolin praises the book for The Forward and writes: “Urofsky is able to make us feel as if we are in Brandeis’s presence.”
• Harvard Law Professor and Israel Advocate writes in The New York Times Alan Dershowitz writes that the most fascinating part of the book is “Brandeis’s conversion from a Christmas-celebrating secular American of Jewish heritage to a committed Zionist and Jew.”
• Adam Liptak writes in The New York Times that Urofsky’s book is a “stately and satisfying biography [that] gives a full account of every aspect of Brandeis’s incredibly varied career.”
• Harvey A. Silvergate writes in The Boston Globe that the book comes at an “opportune” time and that “examining the life of Brandeis…shines essential light on how to balance loyalty to enduring verities with the demands for flexibility in assuring the nation’s future.”

Coincidentally, the United Stats Postal Service will be honoring Brandeis with a stamp to commemorate his legacy as the Supreme Court’s first Jewish member.
