Bronfman: “Israel is More Secure” because of Obama’s Policies

Former World Jewish Congress President Edgar Bronfman endorsed President Barack Obama in an op-ed for the Jewish Journal. According to Bronfman, “the State of Israel is more secure as a result of his policies and actions.” Bronfman wrote:

When I recently sat face-to-face with President Barack Obama, he looked me in the eye and said: ‘My commitment to Israel’s security is bone deep.’

President Obama’s strong words reflect a core conviction that is greater than mere rhetoric.

Without question, President Obama has done more to advance the strategic security and political interests of Israel than any administration in recent memory. President Obama led the U.S. effort to prevent the United Nations Security Council from recognizing a Palestinian State this past September, which would have jeopardized Israel’s sovereignty.

President Obama has secured more funding for the State of Israel than any other administration in history. Under his leadership, the U.S. Armed Forces and the Israel Defense Forces have increased their exchange of strategic defense equipment, technology, intelligence and cooperation to levels never before experienced, leading to a breakthrough in security collaboration.

On Iran - Israel’s greatest external threat - President Obama has built an international coalition to impose crippling sanctions on the Iranian regime and has asserted, time and again, that the United States will not allow Iran to obtain a nuclear weapon. ... He has isolated them, restricted them, and is prepared to do what is necessary to stop the regime from developing a nuclear weapon.

Israel lives in a difficult neighborhood that is going through a period of dramatic turmoil. And as the battles rage on, President Obama has his eye on protecting Israel. He recently put the Syrian regime on notice, warning that should it deploy chemical weapons in the region, Assad and his henchmen would face swift and severe repercussions. Similarly the Administration has made it clear to the new leaders in Egypt that the U.S. expects Egypt to fully honor its peace treaty with Israel.

When terrorists struck and killed Israeli citizens in Bulgaria, the U.S. was quick to condemn the attack and to offer intelligence and investigative support.

When it comes to securing a lasting peace in the Middle East, President Obama rightly believes that any solution must ensure Israel’s long-term viability by guaranteeing its security. President Obama understands the complexity of the peace process, and firmly believes that Israel should never be forced to negotiate with those who deny her right to exist.

President Obama is a thoughtful, dynamic and decisive leader. On matters of importance to the State of Israel, he leads with clear pragmatism, choosing to pursue substantive support for the Jewish State over swashbuckling bravado and inflated rhetoric. Today, the State of Israel is more secure as a result of his policies and actions.

I am confident that President Obama remains fully committed to Israel and that if he is re-elected, then four years from now, Israel will be stronger than ever before. I shall be proud to vote for him.
