EU Imposes New Iran Sanctions

The European Union has joined the United States in sanctioning Iran because of its pursuit of nuclear weapons. The new sanctions target Iran’s shipping, petroleum, insurance, banking, and transportation industries in addition to nuclear-related industries. The sanctions once again emphasize that doing business with Iran comes at a price.

Further, the consistent cooperation between the Obama Administration and the European Union demonstrates that President Barack Obama has placed preventing a nuclear-armed Iran at the top of his foreign policy agenda.

Reuters has compiled a fact sheet that details what the combination of U.S., E.U., and U.N. sanctions will accomplish once fully implemented.
