Some of This Week’s Questionable Republican Statements and Actions

Below is a sampling of this week’s questionable Republican statements and actions:

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) got into a squabble with fellow Tea Partiers in Missouri, who questioned her self-designated leadership of the Tea Party.
Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee invited Tim LaHaye (author of the “Left Behind” apocalyptic novels) to his Fox News show to discuss how President Barack Obama is moving us closer to the apocalypse. Huckabee is presumed to be a candidate for the GOP presidential nomination in 2012.
In an article in Details magazine, Kentucky Senate candidate Rand Paul (R-KY) discussed his support for mountaintop removal mining. This approach to mining causes mountaintops to be literally blasted apart to reach the coal inside. The practice is dangerous and has a serious, irreversible environmental impact. Paul claimed that once the process is carried out, “the land is of enhanced value, because now you can build on it.”
Pat Buchanan said on Morning Joe this week regarding climate change, “I don’t believe it… I’ve been to the beach for 50 years; it hasn’t risen an inch.”
