Ha’Aretz: U.S.-Israel Defense Cooperation “Flourishing”

Reuters and Ha’Aretz report that regardless of any recent disagreements between the United States and Israel, “the Defense Ministry and Pentagon [have concluded] yet another huge deal.”

According to Ha’Aretz:

Israel will buy three new Hercules-J transport aircraft, built by Lockheed Martin, at a cost of $250 million. The planes will be manufactured according to Israeli specifications and include many systems produced by Israeli military suppliers.

And according to Reuters:

The deal is part of an order worth up to $1.9 billion if all options are exercised for nine C-130Js. The aircraft may be used for special operations, disaster relief or humanitarian missions.

The Ha’Aretz article also goes out of its way to clearly emphasize that ongoing U.S.-Israel talks have not impacted defense cooperation between the United States and Israel. As Ha’Aretz has pointed out before, defense cooperation was strained under President George W. Bush.
