Number of Uninsured Would Soar Under Romney

The Commonwealth Fund, a health care research foundation, reported that under Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney’s health care plan, 72 million Americans would be uninsured - 12 million higher than if there had been no health care reform at all. On the other hand, according to the Commonwealth Fund, under President Obama’s Affordable Care Act, the number of uninsured Americans will drop from 47.9 million to 27.1 million by 2022 when the law is fully implemented.

This analysis by the Commonwealth Fund supports last week’s report from Families USA, which found that Romney’s plan “would substantially increase the number of uninsured people across the nation” and “leave millions of middle-class, working families with considerably higher out-of-pocket healthcare costs.”
