Jewish Groups Lining Up in Support of New START Treaty

As Senate Republicans continue to block ratification of the New START treaty with Russia, an increasing number of Jewish groups are lining up to support the new treaty in part because of the effect it will have on the global effort to isolate Iran. Vice President Joe Biden alluded to this in his recent Wall Street Journal op-ed.

The National Jewish Democratic Council (NJDC) was the first Jewish group to advocate for New START’s ratification. As of today, the Anti-Defamation League, B’Nai Brith, J Street, the American Council for World Jewry, and the American Jewish Committee have all joined the advocacy effort out of recognition that a closer relationship with Russia bodes well for Israel’s security and our own.

If you have not already done so, please click here to read NJDC’s take on New START. Afterwards, please contact Senator Jon Kyl (R-AZ), who is blocking New START’s advancement, and politely tell him to support the ratification of New START today.

As it stands now, Kyl and his Republican colleagues are standing in direct contradiction to the recommendation of five former Republican Secretaries of State. Click here to read their op-ed from The Washington Post.
