It appears that Jewish Republicans are alarmed by the nomination of Rand Paul (R-KY) by the Kentucky GOP for the U.S. Senate. While Paul has claimed to be strongly pro-Israel, his ambiguous support for allowing private businesses the discretion to discriminate has left top members of the Republican Jewish Coalition at a loss. RJC Executive Director Matt Brooks stated:
“[Paul’s] civil rights views are another indication of a tone deafness and a point of view that are troubling to a lot of people.”
In addition, Paul’s opposition to foreign aid has left Jewish Republicans even more skeptical of Paul’s support for Israel. They have a clear reason to be concerned as Paul has yet to take a stance on the recent$3 billion dollars that the U.S. has appropriated for Israel. Brooks further claimed that:
“Rand Paul is outside the comfort level of a lot of people in the Jewish community, and in many ways outside of where the Republican Party is on many critical issues.”
