Sun Sentinel: Kaufman Declines Congressman West’s Chief of Staff Job

The Sun-Sentinel reported that talk radio host Joyce Kaufman has declined the Chief of Staff position with Representative-elect Allen West’s office (R-FL). NJDC President and CEO David A. Harris denounced West’s selection of Kaufman yesterday and noted that West’s Jewish constituents “should be deeply concerned” because of Kaufman’s comments about the Jewish community. Harris reiterated yesterday that Kaufman had previously said “that President Barack Obama’s Jewish supporters ‘don’t embrace being Jews anymore’ and are ‘not serious about saving’ Israel because they’ve ‘stopped caring.’”

From news reports, it appears that Kaufman made the final decision about whether or not she would serve as West’s Chief of Staff. Further, West’s official statement on the matter expressed his “regret” that Kaufman will not be serving as his Chief of Staff.

West’s apparent lack of remorse over Kaufman’s appointment indicates that serious questions still remain about his judgment.

That West would even think of appointing Kaufman shows that he is totally, irrevocably tone deaf when it comes to politics.  Having been a staffer on the Hill, I know that it is a job for a professional, not a propagandist . . .
