NJDC Statement of Defeat of Congressman Eric Cantor

Elanna Cahn — June 10, 2014 – 9:26 am | Congress | Republicans Comments (0) Add a comment

The National Jewish Democratic Council notes that the defeat of Congressman Eric Cantor at the hands of a Tea Party challenger has left the Republican Party with no Jewish voice in Congress.
Cong. Cantor was bested by a challenger who campaigned against sensible immigration policies, the kind of policies that enabled Mr. Cantor’s family to become United States citizens.  The American Jewish community has long understood a hospitable approach to immigration to be one of its strongest values.

Now that his return to Congress has been denied and his leadership of the partisan efforts in the House has come to an end, we call on Congressman Cantor to pursue a bipartisan reform of immigration laws, consonant with those values.

NJDC will continue to advocate for Jewish principles and values in Congress that benefit our country.  We invite those who feel unrepresented by the Republican Party to join us in supporting the 33 Jewish Senators and Members who proudly serve as legislators.
