Washington, D.C. – Rabbi Jack Moline, Executive Director of the National Jewish Democratic Council, released the following statement after the President announced new executive measures at the White House Summit on Working Families to expand workplace flexibility for federal employees and improve access to affordable child care for workers in job training programs:

President Barack Obama’s executive actions today are a step towards empowering America’s women.  His statements about creating a work-life balance remind us that there is more to do.  NJDC urges congressional action on the women’s economic agenda – for the betterment of our nation’s families and businesses.

“This year the NJDC has been working to promote the idea that “when women succeed, America succeeds.”  This has become a rallying cry for progress in creating family friendly workplace policies.  Developing paid sick and family leave programs, increasing the minimum wage, ensuring equal pay for equal work, and securing affordable child care and access to preschool are essential to improving the workplace and worker productivity.

“These are not just women’s issues; they affect men and families, young and old, working class and business owners.  Continuing to advance the women’s economic agenda will benefit all Americans, allowing women to succeed and America to succeed.”
