NJDC Condemns FOX’s Roger Ailes’ Labeling of NPR Execs “Nazis”

The National Jewish Democratic Council (NJDC) condemns Fox News’ Roger Ailes’ labeling of National Public Radio executives as “Nazis.”

Ailes told The Daily Beast:

They are, of course, Nazis. They have a kind of Nazi attitude. They are the left wing of Nazism. These guys don’t want any other point of view. They don’t even feel guilty using tax dollars to spout their propaganda. They are basically Air America with government funding to keep them alive.

Ailes also decried “left-wing rabbis who basically don’t think that anybody can ever use the word ‘Holocaust’ on the air.”

Ailes is just the latest Fox News employee to make such an offensive and outrageous comparison. However, his comments are not surprising given the praise that he has heaped on Glenn Beck, who routinely invokes the Holocaust to trash everything and everyone from President Barack Obama to municipal soda bans. Ailes’ remarks make it crystal clear that abusive Holocaust rhetoric is not only tolerated by the company, but a reflection of its Chairman’s views.

As NJDC has said repeatedly (and all too often regarding Fox News hosts), invoking the Holocaust to make a political point is never acceptable. The disturbing and offensive Nazi fascination held by certain Fox News employees must stop.

To Ailes’ credit, he did apologize to the Anti-Defamation League. However, his apology will only have meaning if Fox News cleans up its act and ceases to use abusive Holocaust rhetoric in its future programming.
