Yesterday evening, during an event at the University Club, the National Jewish Democratic Council (NJDC) honored Kenneth R. Feinberg with the Hubert Humphrey Humanitarian Award. Victoria Kennedy was on-hand to present the award to Feinberg. NJDC leadership including Chair Marc R. Stanley, and President and CEO David A. Harris, were also in attendance.

The Hubert Humphrey Humanitarian Award was established by the NJDC and the late Saul Stern to recognize lifetime achievement in promoting issues central to the NJDC agenda including ensuring a better world for our children and grandchildren. The award is named after the former Vice President as a tribute to his longstanding support of Jewish causes at home and abroad, and to his outstanding commitment to America and a more just and humane society. Past recipients of the award include President Bill Clinton, then-Senator Hillary Clinton, and Vice President Al Gore.

“We were proud to honor Ken - who has been a leader in our community - at last night’s tribute,” said Marc R. Stanley, NJDC Chair. “His commitment to public service and to the pursuit of tzedek are admirable and worthy of recognition. He truly embodies the essence of the Hubert Humphrey Humanitarian Award.”

“Ken Feinberg is an extraordinary man who hasn’t needed to hold any elected office to make lifetime contributions to the public service,” remarked Victoria Kennedy at last night’s reception. “My husband always said that each of us can make a difference and all of us should try. Ken is certainly a role model for all of us in how to walk that walk.”

Upon receiving the award Feinberg said, “I accept the award. It is a validation of what I try and do when I take on these projects. I am enormously grateful to this organization, for the principles for which it stands.”
