The National Jewish Democratic Council’s efforts for the New Jersey and Virginia gubernatorial elections are gaining traction.

In New Jersey, where Governor Jon Corzine is gaining ground on a daily basis:

In Virginia, the stakes are very high.

  • NJDC activists are working to increase turnout among Jews on Election Day. According to analyst Stu Rothenberg at NJDC’s conference, “turnout is the key.”
  • Rothenberg also stated that young people will play an important role in electing Creigh Deeds (D-VA) and Jody Wagner (D-VA), as highlighted by NJDC organizer Mellissa Zinder’s efforts at the University of Virginia
  • NJDC is also active in pushing women’s issues and highlighting Wagner, who could become the first Jewish woman elected to statewide office in Virginia. Women’s issues are critically important in the Virginia election especially because of Bob McDonnell’s views towards working women
