Marc R. Stanley, Chairman of the National Jewish Democratic Council (NJDC), and Ira N. Forman, Executive Director of NJDC, released the following statement:

Today, President-elect Barack Obama made two excellent selections with former Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack and Senator Ken Salazar (D-CO) to serve as the Secretary of Agriculture and Secretary of Interior respectively. Vilsack brings a personal understanding of America's agriculture and a pragmatic approach to our farm and food policies. As the head of Interior, Salazar is uniquely qualified to implement the new administrations approach to the challenges of preserving America’s natural resources and pursuing energy independence.

Obama's nominations to lead the departments of Agriculture and Interior show that the President-elect values strong leadership and practical solutions to some of America’s toughest challenges.
