President Barack Obama’s plans for the future of the Afghanistan war have received praise from across the political spectrum. Here is a sample:
- The Republican National Committee’s Dan Senor remarked on Obama’s approach that “it is a very good decision and I applaud him”
- Prior to the speech, former Senior Advisor to President Bush Karl Rove stated that if the president pledged to deploy more troops he’d “be among the first to stand up and applaud”
- Former Admiral and current Representative Joe Sestak (D-PA) supports the troop surge
- Representative Joe Wilson (R-SC) of “You Lie!” fame “applaud[s] the President’s decision to send 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan”
- Obama’s former rival Senator John McCain (R-AZ) told Sean Hannity of Fox News that, despite his other concerns, he supports the increase in troops to Afghanistan
- Senators Ben Nelson (D-NE) and Joe Lieberman (I-CT) have proposed the idea of war bonds to support Obama’s plans financially
