Keyak: Rand Paul Doesn’t Get It On Israel

Dear Editor,

When it comes to fully supporting Israel, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) just doesn’t get it [Rand Paul Embraces Israel, May 2]. Someone who truly supports Israel cannot advocate for cutting or ending American aid to Israel. Period.

Aid to Israel is an investment for America that pays significant dividends. It’s also the lifeline for vital missile defense programs that keep Israelis safe from terrorists’ rockets. If this important aid were to be cut in the face of the existential and seemingly endless threats faced by Israel, the Jewish state would be less secure.

Notably, NRO’s profile of Senator Paul made no mention of his dangerous Iran position. Senator Paul is the only member of the U.S. Senate who discusses containing Iran rather than stopping its nuclear weapons program. The U.S. and Israeli governments are firmly committed to prevention, yet Senator Paul continues to get a free pass from pro-Israel Republicans regarding his naïve stance.

Senator Paul may support Israel in his own ways, but when it comes to two benchmark issues of the pro-Israel community—fully supporting Israel’s aid and preventing a nuclear-armed Iran—Senator Paul falls short.
