CPAC Straw Poll Winner Ron Paul Dismal on Israel, Domestic Jewish Agenda

NJDC — February 13, 2011 – 1:00 pm | Domestic Policy | Election 2012 | Israel | Republicans Comments (2) Add a comment

National Jewish Democratic Council (NJDC) President and CEO David A. Harris today issued the following statement on the results of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) straw poll in which Representative Ron Paul (R-TX) was the winner:

The results of the CPAC straw poll send a clear message: the Republican Party and the conservative movement continue to grow increasingly out of touch with the values of the American Jewish community. It seems as though Republicans are trying to drive Jewish voters away as quickly as possibly, in fact.

Representative Ron Paul has never missed an opportunity to vote against the U.S.-Israel relationship. And his questionable record goes far beyond this; as we have noted before, ‘from his unacceptable statements about Gaza to the Ron Paul newsletter wondering aloud if the 1993 World Trade Center bombing was perpetrated by Israel, Paul is beyond the pale.’ Like his son, he wants to end all aid to Israel, though Rep. Paul has gone even farther in discussing his bizarre and offensive belief that ‘AIPAC is in control of things, and they control the votes’ regarding the war in Iraq. On the domestic front, Paul is no better—calling global climate change a ‘hoax’ and working to eliminate the Department of Education.

Republicans from around the country descended on Washington in recent days for the most prominent annual conservative conference. And after hearing directly from many 2012 hopefuls, they decided that Ron Paul—miserable record and all—best represents the hearts and minds of conservatives. This speaks volumes about today’s conservative movement, and how diametrically opposed to Jewish interests it is.

Paul embodies a Republican Party that continues to move further and further to the right—and a conservative movement that fails to stand up for the ideals and values that American Jews hold dear.

For years I have been warning my fellow American Jews, Democrats and non-Democrats alike, that people like Rep. Ron Paul do not represent the fringe of the so-called Republican Party (poor oldtime GOP), but rather they are indicative of the under-current of anti-Semitic…both anti-Jewish and anti-Arab…sentiments and POVs prevalent within the so-called Republican Party. Thank goodness some Republicans realised this and either left or try to turn the tide within their party. Good luck to the Peacemakers!
I stand with the NJDC and NJDC Pres./CEO David A. Harris in expressing our deep concern, sadness and justified sense of shock without awe!
As for those who continue to perpetuate stupid, superficial myths that are Big Lies about Israel: they cannot fool everyone; the fact that Israel can be so improperly portrayed and misunderstood by much of the World and other vulnerabilities should serve as ample evidence of how absurd and dangerous such Big Lies are! They are only believed by those who fail to do their own serious objective research and who forget that there would be no one on the Palestinian and other Arab side of the conflict willing to talk to Israel IF such nonsense had any truth to it! IN FACT; those who perpetuate such Big Lies serve only to hinder serious efforts at Comprehensive Peace between Israel and her eternal neighbours! And by impeding real efforts at True, Viable and Lasting Peace (Two States Solution) such Big Liars are also to be held accountable for the lives of innocents lost. Think before you leap to false judgment. THiNK!

What Ron Paul is proposing is a Free and Independent Israel.

As Netanyahu said to Washington on May 24, 2011 - “You don’t need to send American troops to Israel. We defend ourselves.”

Ron Paul’s position is similar to Netanyahu’s statement.

In 1981 Israel bombed Iraq’s nuclear reactor. Unlike the United Nations and the Reagan administration who condemned the action, Ron Paul defended Israel saying,

“Israel should not have to answer to America for how she defends herself. Why shouldn’t Israel be allowed to defend herself in any way she sees fit without listening to the dictates of the United States?”

This shows that he is not anti-Semitic, but a Zionist, supporting a free and independent Israel.

Think before you leap to false judgement. THINK!
